4. Undredal stave church
Undredal stave church is idyllically located in the tiny community of Undredal. The church at Undredal is thought to be the smallest parish church in the Nordic countries.
It seats just 40 people and is still in use as the parish church. The church, which was probably originally built as a private church, is dedicated to St. Nikolai. It has been somewhat extended and rebuilt since the middle ages and belongs to the simplest type of stave church, with stave walls and a gable roof. Urnes, Borgund, Kaupanger and Hopperstad have raised chancels supported by columns (staves) and are also called chancel churches or column stave churches.
