8. Hopperstad stave church
Hopperstad stave church is on a hilltop near the old settlement of Hopperstad. The church is surrounded by fields and pastures and has the ”classic” stave church form, with roof above roof.
When the church was restored, Borgund was used as a model for its exterior. The church has been dated at some point between 1130 and 1150. It was actually scheduled for demolition when it was bought at the last minute by the Society. The man behind this was the architect Blix, who also directed the restoration work. Read more here.
