3. The Old Bakery, Lærdalsøyri
In the heart of the old town lies the Old Bakery, which now belongs to the Society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments. In the years from 1880 to the 1950s, four bakers carried out their trade here. The Society took the building over in 1972.
Since 2006 the bakery has once again been in use, during the summer season. In 2008 the upper floor was refurbished and it is now possible to stay overnight here. In the old town - Gamle Lærdalsøyri - there are 161 wooden buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. This is considered to be one of the best preserved timber-built areas in the country.
